EDW: Interior Design
It’s 2008! Blimey. What with all the navel gazing, introspection, reconciliations and petty drama, I’d taken my eye off the New Year ball. This is the time for resolutions, for trying to stop all those bad habits and make empty promises to do everything better. Even Dita’s at it, resolving to be ‘more eccentric’ as this LA Times article attests. There’s a fine line between ‘eccentricity’ and ‘care in the community’ (just ask Isabella Blow), and it’s a line I’ve wobbled along for much of my life – not just sartorially either. Furthermore, having worn a ball gown to Sainsburys, I feel duty bound to warn Dita that one must take especial care not to get it tangled up in the wheels of the shopping trolley. So, having made no effort thus far to articulate my aspirations for the next twelve months, I shall do so now.In no particular order, this year I intend to:
Walk on fire
Train in a more focused way to increase my pole/trapeze/hoop prowess
Develop three acts and perform them regularly
Finish writing my bleeding pole dance book and get the damn thing published (finally)
Learn to dance the Charleston
Visit Berlin
Visit New York City
Visit Sark
Own this Fifi Chachnil set of lingerie
Not be such a pussy about promoting myself
Embedded in these intentions is stuff about longer term goals and life changes that I’m not ready to share, and rather than make resolutions, I like to give myself positive, tangible targets to achieve – with the exception of the last one that is. And on that note, I’ve decided that while British diffidence may be charming when played on the big screen by Hugh Grant, it serves only to keep one stuck in the real world – I need to put myself out there more if things are really going to change around here.
With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about redecorating this blog. I mean, I love the pink, I love the banner – designed so beautifully by Mac The Nice, I love all the awards so kindly given, but I just feel the place is lacking something to be truly Elegantly Dressed. While catching up on your blogs the other day, I realised what is lacking; a Bloggie. You may or may not be aware that the 2008 Bloggies are now running. Nominations are open until January 11th, I believe, and what better way to start the new year than by winning one? Sadly, the ‘Best British or Irish Weblog’ category has been scrapped, but you could still nominate The Pole Affair for ‘Best European Weblog’, ‘Best Writing of a Weblog’, or ‘Best-Kept Secret Weblog’. And if Clairvoyance floats your boat, you could always nominate that for any of the above or the ‘Best New Weblog’ award.
Blimey. That was harder than I thought. Asking you to nominate me for an award makes me feel embarrassed and shy and, well, a bit rude really. I mean, who am I to tell you what to do? And how bold to suggest that of all the blogs you read, mine might be the one you nominate. Gulp. Ah well, I’ve filled in my nominations, and the rest, well, if the universe thinks the appearance of this blog would be improved by the addition of a Bloggie, then so be it. And if not, well, then so be that, too. But hey, if the same names win this year as every bloody year, we’ll only have ourselves to blame, so let us start 2008 by addressing the Bloggies elegantly and giving new voices a chance to wear the ultimate blog accessory. Here’s to Elegantly Dressing blogs.

1. Be sure to keep me informed should you come to NYC.
2. It's a bit embarrassing to admit, but I yuv Hugh Grant movies.
3. Going to check this Bloggies thing now.
;)
Why Sark?
Lee
1. You are one of the reasons I want to visit.
2. I used to, but then I met him, he was an arse and he actually said 'Do you know who I am?' (I said 'No. Sorry, sir, should I?'), and I rather went off him.
3. You should - I think you should get the 'Most Humorous' award.
Quinky
Because ever since I watched this as a child, I have wanted to. An instinct I cannot explain pulls me there, but despite having looked into it many, many times, I've never managed to actually visit.

Way to promote yourself! It's a very British thing, this self-effacing modesty - I seem to have picked up the habit. Take a page from the Loud American book and tell everyone how damn fabulous you are - even if they don't know what you're on about they'll soon come round - peer pressure is nice that way. :-) xx
(BTW: Walking on Fire?? Awesome!!)

Yes, walking on fire. It's another thing I've been meaning to do for a while now. Always pushing the boundaries.
Puss
wow! best of luck with all your resolutions!
and i'm off to check out the bloggies thing now, too.
thanks for the nudge ;)
Voted..
You deserve it....
I'm glad you mentioned the bloggies because it gave me chance to vote for some of my other favourite bloggers in different catagories.
*OM*
I can't wait 'til your book comes out!
(I hope it's not 800 pages, Puss.)
Don't forget about a spectacular trip to Canada. Or at least book me in advance to meet you in New York!
Oh, I do feel in a nominating mood.
Can't type more. Must save it for nomination form.
Puss,
Love the list. The fire walking ought to take you to new places. Incredible. Talk about pushing the boundaries. . .
I love the Charleston!
re: bloggies: Pole & Clairvoyance have my vote.

Cheers, I think I'll need the luck - especially with finding the cash for a flight across the pond.
Mr Ordinary
Mon plaisir, and thank you kindly.
Matt
Actually, Mr Sarky-Pants, it's 200pp and predominantly photographs. If you're nice to me, I'll send you a signed copy. If you're not, I smack you round the head with a copy when I get to the USA.
Princess
Of course, Canada! Maybe I can hitch-hike from NYC...
Jocelyn
I didn't have you down as a woman of few words...
;-)

Yes, let's hope one of those new places isn't A&E...
Thank you, dearie - you're a sweetie.

A book, NYC, nominations??? I am bubbling with excitement for you!
As Lee said, you better let me know when you are coming to NYC. And I'm off to check out the 2008 bloggie thingie.
Hear, Hear! Puss-
And, yes, we American Loudmouths, do a pretty good job of promoting ourselves, because no one else will. That is what you need to keep in the back of your mind-do not let anyone else's opinion of you stop you from doing what you want to do-ever!
So, promote, baby, promote!
